UK Power Networks’ (UKPN) section of work consisted of 2 x 180m of overlay reinforcement in Coldham’s lane. This is part of a larger 7.6km scheme.
Cambridge Local Authority identified the works to be collaborative with Bellway on behalf of Anglian Water. We agreed in principle that UKPN will contract directly with Bellway to conduct approximately 100 metres of trench work alignment, comprising Bellway’s sewer at a greater depth than UKPN’s cables but using the same trench in line with the council’s expectations /requirements. Bellway’s total length of work was 210m in shared Traffic management. Beyond the open cut section, we carried out Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) from the west of the railway to the roundabout and Bellway pipe jacked the remainder of their sewer adding a further 80m.
Additional engagement with Sainsburys included an agreed tree removal for landowner access and approximately 20m of white lining outside of the overlay as an additional collaboration with Sainsburys.
UKPN’s trench length was 360m of 4 x 33kV ducts for 1 circuit of 132kV underground cable installation.
Commentary on communication with local stakeholders:
An outlined plan was discussed with the local authority and Anglian Water to discuss shared communication with a letter drop for local residents before works started outlining the dates and benefits of minimising disruption.
To keep momentum weekly meetings were held to share Traffic Management responsibilities and reinstatements.
The following is not a comprehensive list of the companies involved but does indicate some of the parties that had to be communicated with to keep the project on target:
