Innovation Strategy
The 2026 Electricity Networks Innovation Strategy sets out how Great Britain’s energy networks will continue to use innovation to deliver a resilient, affordable and increasingly decarbonised energy system. This year’s strategy is presented through a full document and an accompanying online visual tool (coming soon), highlighting the capabilities that innovation has already enabled to become business‑as‑usual across our networks — from digital tools and system flexibility to more accessible and customer‑focused services.
Looking ahead, the strategy identifies the priority innovation challenges and opportunities the sector must address over the short, medium and long term to meet the UK’s policy goals and support a sustainable net zero energy system. Together, the document and the online visual provide a clear view of the innovation required to maintain progress, strengthen whole‑system coordination and ensure the networks are equipped for the demands of the future.

Basecamp
Innovators came together to kick off the Energy Innovation Basecamp in Birmingham. The event bought together some extremely innovative and proactive minds, with over 200 attendees and speakers registered to discuss and debate these industry challenges.

Basecamp 2024 was launched in March at Manchester. We were so pleased to see around 250 keen minds from across different industry sectors join us in Manchester to hear first-hand the 2024 problem statements. Following the success of last year's inaugural event, our partners Ofgem and UKRI also used the event to launch their Round 4 Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) Challenges. This meant delegates were the first to hear the strategic innovation priorities of the energy regulator, as well as the specific and technical problem statements that energy networks want solutions for in 2024.
