Scheme background: The project was SGN/JDT and Thames Water/Morrison Energy services working collaboratively in the same area, works were situated in the London borough of Lambeth. Between the planned conference calls, the GLA, Morrison Water Services and ourselves held other meetings to keep the momentum up and had both organisations discussing roles & responsibilities, such as cost sharing, TM plans, who excavates and who reinstates the area.
The project started on 14th June 2021 and took approximately 9 weeks to complete. SGN/JDT inserted 488 metres of 75mm PE gas main and abandoned 488 metres of 4” Cast iron main. Following the live insertion, TW excavated all service holes and directionally drilled their main on a half and half road closure. TW then transferred all their services onto their water main. JDT mobilised within TW road closure and using the same excavations as TW renewed all gas services. JDT carried the backfill and reinstatement of the footways. TW backfilled and reinstated the carriageway. Road closure was then moved up to the next part of the road. Then it was a repeated process as before. We shared their muck pile to save on costs for both parties. In all scenarios we shared the same trench as both services was in the same excavation.
