Scheme background: The Flintmill Crescent scheme involved Thames Water and SGN working collaboratively to reduce disruption to residents and road users, in a predominantly residential area, of which a large proportion is social housing. Thames Water worked on a 60m stretch to install a new 125m PE pipe which will allow abandonment of an old 4” cast iron pipe, as well as installing 5 new valves, washouts, and replacing all services. SGN abandoned 158m of ductile iron gas main and installed new pipes as well as installing above ground risers to supply a block of flats. These works were coordinated and delivered collaboratively to reduce disruption to residents living in the surrounding housing estate.
The project was SGN/JDT and Thames Water/J Browne working collaboratively in the same area, works were situated in the London borough of Greenwich. Between the planned conference calls, the GLA, J Browne and ourselves held other meetings to keep the momentum up and had both organisations discussing roles & responsibilities, such as cost sharing, TM plans, who excavates and who reinstates the area.
The project started on 3rd January 2024 and took approximately 5 weeks to complete. SGN/JDT excavated connections holes and dead inserted 95.7 metres of 125mm PE gas main, Open cut 50 metres of 90mm PE pipe. Before the dead insertion, we used a vac ex to excavate all service holes and connection holes. Thames Water carried out the excavation on the open cut section and we trench shared and installed out gas main. Then we carried the back fill and reinstatement of SGNs and Thames Waters Footprint. We also carried out above ground steel main work supplying the blocks of flats involved the project these were a total of 158.9 metres of 2” and 24.2 metres of 1” Steel
