Optimisation of the methods available to remediate residual oil left in the ground following repair of a cable oil leak, and make recommendations on how to achieve the best results in different situations.
Objectives
The development of a predictive ‘tool-kit’ for the assessment of appropriate remediation strategies for transformer and cable oil contaminated soils.
The analytical toolkit will give accurate measure of toxicity and bioavailability of oil in soils and any required nutrient or microbiological augmentation for effective remediation and reuse of soils. It should provide confidence in the appropriate selection of remediation techniques or justify the use of landfill facilities where remediation is not a viable option.
Project will be delivered through support for a 3 year EPSRC PhD. Case Studentship to be hosted at Lancaster University.
