Outcomes

The outcomes of the projects succesfully deliverd the following:

·       What information is already known about what the transition from natural gas to hydrogen will likely involve 

·       How the step by step process to transition customers from natural gas to hydrogen is likely to be facilitated

·       Which aspects of the switchover process customers in a vulnerable situation are most concerned with

·       A range of support servicesmeasures to keep customers safe during thea transition to hydrogen

·       Some of the challenges that may be faced if looking to consider a hydrogen conversion on a bigger scale

·       The key lessons that will be needed to advise and support consumers through any conversion

Lessons Learnt

Conducting research with those in a vulnerable situation presents a range of challenges. Whilst these issues can be overcome, it is important to recognise a variety of methodologies bespoke to the individuals needs may be required. Future projects should be flexible in their approach to collecting feedback, and additional time allocated in case the appropriate methodology will require more time resource.                                                                             

Furthermore, many aspects of running a research trial require (or at least are quicker) if the participants have a degree of digital literacy/access e.g., to issue information about the trial and answer participant questions, to send and receive research consent forms or to issue payment for any feedback provided such as a digital voucher. This too should be considered when planning a trial with those in a vulnerable situation.
