Subsea cable prognostic diagnosis.
Objectives
The aim of this project is to develop a desktop tool (based on parameters such as cable construction, tidal flow, and sea bed conditions) which could be used to predict the remaining life of these subsea cables linking island networks to the main GB grid. This would enable planned replacement, rather than reactive replacement which involves long lead time to obtain replacement cable and the use of diesel generation on the affected islands until the fault is cleared.
